Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry

About The Department

The independent entity of the Department of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry came into effect on 1st October 2016 consequent upon the splitting of the composite department of ASEPAN (Agronomy, Soil Science, Agricultural Engineering, Plant Physiology, and Animal Science). However, the M. Sc. (Ag.) in Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry is being offered since 2002. The mandate of the Department is teaching of Under Graduate, Post Graduate and Ph. D degree programs, high-quality research, and extension activities on various aspects of Soil and Plant Nutrition viz. Soil Chemistry, Soil Fertility, Biochemistry, Soil Health, Organic Farming, Biofertilizers, soil- Primary, Secondary and micronutrients, Soil-pesticides interactions, Bio fortification of nutrients, Vermicomposts, Biochars, Heavy Metals, and soil pollutants. The laboratories of the department are well equipped with stateof-the-art instruments to carry out high-quality research on soil, plant, and water. The Department is also involved in extension activities for solving various problems of the farmers in the surrounding villages and localities. Recommendations are being made from the findings of the investigations carried out by the Department for farmers’ adoption in crop cultivation, soil and fertility management for improving crop quality and productivity, soil health, soil and water conservation. An extensive RAWE program is also offered to the UG students.
