Academic and research strengths

  • The department offers a full ladder of programmes (Undergraduate Major & Minor, M.Sc., Ph.D.) which allows continuity from undergraduate training to advanced research in one ecosystem.

  • Research spans diverse modern areas such as natural products, synthetic organic chemistry, green chemistry and supramolecular chemistry, alongside strong inorganic and analytical work, giving students exposure to multiple front‑line domains.

Advanced instrumentation in a rural campus

  • Despite being located in a relatively remote, rural area, the department hosts advanced facilities such as NMR, HRMS and other sophisticated instruments which are routinely used for both teaching and high-level research.

  • These instruments are not restricted to in‑house projects; they are also made available to researchers from other departments of Visva-Bharati and neighbouring colleges and institutes, making the department a regional analytical hub.

Collaborative and outreach-oriented culture

  • Faculty members maintain collaborations with national and international research institutes, encouraging joint projects, shared supervision and knowledge exchange for students and scholars.

  • By opening instrumental facilities to external users and engaging with local institutions, the department actively contributes to capacity building in the wider academic community around Santiniketan.
