About The Centre

Professor Arjun Sengupta and Dr. I.G.Patel, the then Economic Advisors to the Government of India were instrumental and the main architect in establishing a unit of the erstwhile Planning Commission in Visva-Bharati to undertake research and supply inputs to the erstwhile Planning Commission in 1995.. The eminent economists of India reached a consensus to the proposal of Professor Arjun Sengupta that this Unit would be named after Professor A.K.Dasgupta.

Action Plan

  • To continue the research work as per areas identified by the NITI Aayog
  • To uptake any assignment as suggested/ given by the NITI Aayog
  • Research and dissemination of knowledge created should be main thrust of the Centre.
  • Sponsored Research Projects can be undertaken on wider scale and inter-disciplinary subjects fulfilling the object of the NITI Aayog.
  • Collaborative as well as interdisciplinary work to be undertaken and collaboration can be undertaken inter-college or universities as well as with outside Indian institutions.

     “R” is an open source programming language and a free statistical software designed and
highly suitable for in-depth data analysis, Visualization, data manipulations, data
modelling, forecasting and making inferences. R runs on all the major Operating System
platforms. R is one of the most sought-after software for conducting data science research
and is also highly popular among the academic community.

     The Centre invites applications from research scholars, faculty member of colleges and
universities, management executives who wish to deepen their understanding on the
subject.

     This 14-day Programme is designed to familiarize academicians, practitioner and
researchers with the statistical research tools and techniques, with special focus on the
Software “R”. This will augment the skill of the participants to use “R” and enhance the
horizon of their research work. The knowledge of modern techniques applied to research
are imperative for quality work and this workshop aims to give a comprehensive insight
on those and enable researchers and academicians to apply those techniques rightly.
