Rabindra-Bhavana is the Institute of Tagore Studies and Research under the Directorate of Culture and Cultural Relations of Visva-Bharati. Rabindra-Bhavana is located at Uttarayana at the northern boundary of Visva-Bharati and occupies 13 acres of land.
Founded in July 1942, a year after Rabindranath Tagore’s death, Rabindra-Bhavana, the Institute of Tagore Studies and Research, is an important component of Visva-Bharati. It is, in fact, the focal point of the University. Among its treasures, Rabindra-Bhavana includes a vast collection of Tagore’s manuscripts, correspondences, paintings and doodles, the Poet’s personal library, various objects used by him, his voice-recordings and thousands of photographs and places and the many gifts, honours and addresses. Rabindra-Bhavana manages several historical residences of Rabindranath at Saniniketan, and also the archives and library. The Institute also conducts the Heritage Walk for visitor to the Santiniketan ashrama—now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
