Department of Agricultural Engineering was created as an individual department by splitting the composite department of ASEPAN in the year 2016. The main objectives of the Department are teaching, research and extension activities in the field of Agricultural Engineering discipline such as Farm Machinery and Power, Food and Agricultural Process Engineering, Soil and Water Conservation Engineering and Renewable Energy Technology. Presently, 8 students are pursuing Ph.D. and one student has been awarded PhD degree. Major research areas are drying, controlled atmosphere storage, irradiation, fruit processing, value addition, fish processing, hermetic storage, farm implements, precision agriculture application, climate change impact on forest biomass, runoff modelling, etc. The department has four sanctioned teaching posts in Agricultural Engineering discipline. The department also has a workshop. In addition, provide scientific basis for enhancing and sustaining productivity in the farming sectors with the modern and advanced agricultural technologies.
The Department of Agricultural Engineering, Institute of Agriculture in association with IQAC, Visva-Bharati and Department of Plant Pathology, Institute of Agriculture, Visva-Bharti has organized a National Seminar cum Farmers’ Training Programme entitled “Role of Traditional Indian Knowledge System (IKS) for Sustainable Mechanization in Rice and Groundnut Crop” during 20-23 February 2025. Around 70 delegates and 100 farmers participated in the Seminar.
The Department of Agricultural Engineering, Institute of Agriculture in association has organized a Farmers’ Training Programme on “Paddy and Groundnut Machinery” during 16 – 20 December 2024. The five-day programme had 100 farmer participants from Illambazar block, Birbhum District, West Bengal.
