BA Courses
A. Instruction to the candidates for B.A.(Honours) courses (Code : BA) in different core/major/ subjects of Vidya-Bhavana (Code : 02). Candidates can apply in a single form for any/all core/major subject(s) from the 6 (six) core/major subjects (under Paper III; Code 3) stated below, by mentioning the chosen subject(s) in order of their preferences, which will be according to conformity with the relevant eligibility criteria. Separate application forms will be required for subjects belonging to different papers. There will be separate all-India admission test for each paper of core/major subjects.
Vidya-Bhavana (Code : 02), Course – B.A. (Honours) (Code : BA-21) Paper III Code 3: (Social Sciences) – Subjects: Ancient Indian History, Culture & Archaeology; Comparative Religion, Economics, Geography, History, Philosophy, Social Work. N.B.: Social Work course is under Palli Samgathana Vibhaga. Note : For BA (Honours) in Mathematics, a separate admission test will be conducted at Santiniketan immediately after the all-India Admission Test with notification of dates in the University website. B. Eligibility Criteria for admission to Under-Graduate Six Semester Courses [B.A.(Hons.)] (Code: BA) through admission tests.
a) General and OBC Candidates : Passed Higher Secondary Examination under 10+2 pattern or its equivalent, subject to fulfillment of the requirements regarding subject combinations and marks in respect of the Department concerned as shown in the table below. b) SC/ST/PH Candidates: Passed Higher Secondary Examination under 10+2 pattern or its equivalent, subject to fulfillment of the requirements regarding subject combinations of the Department concerned.
Reporting Time: Candidates should report at the venue of the admission test at least one and a half hour before the commencement of the admission test. Admit Card can be downloaded from the University website which will give location of the test centre.
C. Modalities for preparing Merit Lists for admission to B.A.(Hons.) courses through admission test under Vidya-Bhavana (Code: 02). Marks secured in the relevant written admission test only: Out of 100 *The qualifying marks in admission test shall be 30% for general candidates and 27% for OBC candidates. There shall be no eligibility marks in case of SC/ST candidates. *The date of announcement of the results of Admission Test of B.A. (Hons.) will be notified in the University website.
Note: For calculation of percentage of aggregate marks, total marks secured by a candidate in all subjects offered at 10+2 level and as shown in the mark sheets, will be considered.
D. Subject Offered: B.A.(Hons.) students will be required to study the following subjects with their Honours/Core Subject: 1)Two Language Subjects : (i) General English (ii) General Bengali/Alternative Bengali/Alternative English/Alternative Hindi/Alternative Odia. 2) One Compulsory Foundation Course/Paper on Tagore Studies of 100 marks. 3) One Compulsory Foundation Course/Paper on Environmental Studies of 100 marks. 4) Two Subsidiary/Allied Subjects: (a) Any one from group –A: Education/Political Science/Philosophy/Economics/Mathematics/Hindi (b)Any one from group–B : History/AIHC&A/Statistics/Sanskrit/Bengali/Comparative Literature/Arabic. 5) Statistics as a Subsidiary Subject is available to students of B.A. (Hons.) in Mathematics and Geography.
General Criteria for Direct Admission of Internal Students to B.A.(Hons.)
(1) Internal candidates securing requisite percentage of marks in aggregate in the Pre-Degree (PD) Examination of Visva-Bharati subject to fulfillment of Departmental requirements will be considered for direct admission strictly in order of merit (detailed in table below). (2) SC/ST/PH reservation quota for direct admission of internal candidates will be considered as per rules. (3) For OBC candidates: Less by 10% of the eligibility criteria specified for general candidates in respect of both aggregate and the concerned subject(s).
General criteria for admission to B.A. (Hons.) Courses (Code: BA) for internal candidates and staff ward (external) through admission test. An internal or staff ward candidate of the current year securing at least 45% marks in aggregate at the +2 level, subject to fulfillment of Departmental requirements regarding subject combinations, is eligible to apply. The date, time and venue of the admission tests will be the same as those for the external candidates (General and OBC).
