History

About The Department

The Department of History started its journey in 1961, on the Birth Centenary of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore. Famous historians, such as Ashin Dasgupta,have taught in this department over the decades— a tradition that continues to this day. Currently, the Department is the recipient of the UGC SAP-DRS Phase-III. International and national conferences are held regularly and eminent historians are invited to teach and deliver lectures at the department.Further, we boast a list of illustrious alumni spread across the world.

Biography as History (05.03.2025 - 06.03.2025)

The Department of History, Vidya Bhavana, Visva-Bharati organised a Two Day National Conference on “Biography as
History” on 05-06 March, 2025 at Lipika Auditorium and Bhasha-Vidya Building Complex.
