RABINDRA SANGIT, DANCE AND DRAMA

Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore, emphasized on a multi-disciplinaryapproach towards art practice. Teaching of music, dance and drama werealways an integral part of his pedagogic vision of a comprehensiveeducation system. Initiated in 1919, Sangit Bhavana, over the years has contributed to this vision and plays an important role in organizing andcurating all the seasonal festivals that are part of the Santiniketan ethos. The Department of Rabindra Sangit, Dance and Drama under SangitBhavana, has developed as a pre-eminent centre for specialized training in Rabindra Sangit, Manipuri Dance, Kathakali Dance, Rabindra Nritya, Dramaand Theatre Arts. Our curricula aim for an all-round development of students with efficiency in the practical along with a strong theoretical understanding. Scholarship in the institution also plays a key role in the propagation and dissemination of the various art forms at the global level.Rabindra Sangit Gabeshana Kendra has been established as a space for independent scholars to pursue further research on Tagore’s Music and to capture the essence of Tagorean philosophy.
